THE NURTURER &
THE HEAVY LIFTER

Sterling Silver and Dichroic Glass;
(sterling silver Towle berry spoon (mfr.1912), dichroic kiln-formed glass forged in home glass studio, sterling silver chain)

I purchased this spoon at an antique shop in Maine a few years back. For this composition, I decided to cut the spoon in half- and almost instantly felt a twinge of guilt for what I had done!

It was then that I saw the meaning in this spoon as a metaphor for the balance a woman must find in her life. A great deal of time is spent on the handle end of life, where the heavy lifting takes place. A woman finds a way to balance this with the receiving end of the spoon, the nurturing side of her soul, the giving side of her nature- We as women strive to find the balance between these self-imposed expectations.

These would be great as a Mother/Daughter gift, for Sisters, best friends, a married couple, or a significant other. These are priced separately and you certainly can purchase just one- but somewhere in my romantic soul I hope fate allows them to journey together!

Dimensions:

The Nurturer (spoon side): 2 1/2" tall, 1 5/8" wide, 1/2" deep
   Nurterer dichroic glass: 1" tall, 1 1/8" wide, 3/16" deep
The Heavy Lifter (handle side): 2" tall, 1" wide, 1/2" deep
   Heavy Lifter dichroic glass: 1 1/4" tall, 1" wide, 3/16" deep

After the Storm

Sterling Silver and Dichroic Glass;
(sterling silver tornado earring (provenance unknown), dichroic kiln-formed glass forged in home glass studio, sterling silver chain)

This up-cycled sterling silver necklace pays tribute to individual struggle, and to those who turn that experience into a badge of courage.  The bail of this pendant started its life as a set of sterling silver earrings. This particular earring lost its mate and languished for years in the corner of a dusty, long-forgotten jewelry box.

If you live in the Southern or Midwest United States, this earring's tornado emblem is unmistakable! I have taken that iconic shape and turned it on its head, bending it to my will. It now sits in the background of the piece and is no longer the center of the experience. It supports this beautiful piece of kiln-formed glass, and stands as a subtle symbol of chaos reined in to uphold beauty.

Dimensions:

1 1/2" tall, 1" wide
attached to a 20" sterling silver box chain

Faith

Antique Jerusalem Cross and Glass-Beaded Necklace with Italian Leather dresser box;
(cross of wood/mother of pearl/antique brass, antique and modern glass beads, magnetic clasp, antique leather dresser box)

Jerusalem Crosses were very popular two turns of the century ago, from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. They were hand crafted by artisans and sold on the streets to coincide with the annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem for the Stations of the Cross at Easter time.

I purchased this stunning antique cross at an auction in the Midwest United States, along with this antique Italian leather dresser box made in Florence, Italy.  I like to imagine that this beautiful cross and antique box have lived together for over a hundred years now!

I decided to turn this cross into a necklace so it could spend more hours in the daylight and find a home where its original purpose is honored.

Dimensions:

The Cross is 2 3/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide, 1/8" thick
The beaded chain necklace is 19 1/2" long with magnetic clasp
The Leather box is 5 1/2" wide, 3 1/2" deep, 2 1/2" tall (at its highest point), approximately 40 cubic inches
